Born and raised in Baldwin County, Matt attended Christ the King school in Daphne before attending and graduating from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in 2001. He received a Bachelors degree in Philosophy in 2005 from Auburn University. During his time at Auburn he was a Student Assistant for the Auburn Men’s Basketball team, and is a current member of the Auburn University Letterman’s Club.
In 2005, Matt was admitted to the University of Alabama School of Law as a Dean’s Merit Scholar and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in May of 2008. In Law School, he was a member of the school’s Capital Defense Clinic assisting attorneys in providing defense for indigent defendants facing the death penalty.
Upon graduating from Law School and passing the Alabama Bar Exam, Matt began working for the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney where he was assigned as Drug Prosecutor. He handled all manner of felony drug cases from simple Unlawful Possession to Unlawful Manufacturing and Drug Trafficking. He continued working there until December of 2009 when he was hired on as a lawyer for Greene & Phillips.
Matt has been married to his wife Jennifer since August 2008, he has one stepson (John, 4), and he and Jennifer are expecting a baby in June of 2010. When not at work he spends time with his family and as a coach for youth basketball through the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO).
