1.8 Million Jury Verdict for Motorcycle Wreck Victim

September 1, 2023/in Firm News, Latest News, Motorcycle Accidents, Settlements & Verdicts/by J. David Greene

Greene & Phillips Injury Lawyers Secure $1.8 Million Jury Verdict against Hut American Group for Injured Saraland Resident

MOBILE AL, 8/31/2023 – Greene & Phillips – Attorneys at Law, a local firm with a 25-year legacy of advocating for injury victims, announces a victory on behalf of their client, a 39 year-old man from Saraland. A Mobile Circuit Court jury on Wednesday awarded the client a $1.8 million verdict against Hut American Group following a three day trial.

In June of 2021, the client was riding his motorcycle when a delivery driver failed to yield the right of way and pulled into his path. The driver was delivering pizza for his employer Hut American Group, which owns and operates the Pizza Hut in Saraland. The wreck fractured the client’s left femur in multiple places.

The case was litigated by Attorneys Britt Bethea and David Greene, Managing Partner. Greene said, “The negligence of a company employee while on the clock resulted in a terrible injury and drastic change to our client’s life. Despite clear evidence in the case and their driver’s own admission, Hut never accepted responsibility for the wreck.”

The Law firm of Greene & Phillips is deeply rooted in the local community and is tirelessly dedicated to representing injury victims in Mobile, Birmingham, and throughout the country. Over the firm’s quarter-century in business, they have helped 20,000+ clients obtain rightful compensation for their injuries. Greene & Phillips stands ready to fight for those who have suffered due to the negligence of others.

In a week marked by outstanding performances in the first round of high school football playoffs, Saraland High School’s junior wide receiver Ryan Williams distinguished himself, earning the Greene and Phillips Player of the Week award.

Williams’ remarkable achievement of 194 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns was pivotal in leading his team to a playoff victory against McAdory and a spot in the second round.

Greene commended Williams for his exceptional talent and foresaw a promising future for him at the University of Alabama. Williams’ contributions have been a significant factor in Saraland High School’s continued success under Coach Kelly’s guidance.

Ronnie Royal – Player of the Week

November 9, 2023/in Athlete of the Week, Latest News, Player of the Week/by Stephen Collins

Greene & Phillips and Fox10 TV awarded Ronnie Royal of Gulf Shores High School as this week’s “Player of the Week”.

Royal, a senior running back, delivered a trifecta of touchdowns during last Friday’s game that fueled the Dolphins’ triumph over BC Raine . His remarkable 90-yard kickoff return, coupled with a 61-yard punt return and a 50-yard free kick return—all in the first half—were pivotal in reversing the team’s fortunes.

Personal Injury Attorney Stephen Collins of Greene & Phillips handed over the Player of the Week award to Royal, who humbly credited his teammates for the victory. “It’s definitely a team award,” Royal stated, emphasizing the collective effort that spurred his individual success.

Head Coach, Mark Hudspeth, praised Royal’s contributions on the field and also highlighted his character off the field, “He’s an exceptional player, but even better kid, a couple of weeks ago, we get through the Friday night game, probably 1030…. He’s handing out food the next morning at 6 a.m. at the church food pantry.”

Royal’s advice to peers is poignant: push forward regardless of the odds, maintain humility, and keep striving. His philosophy of hard work and perseverance resonates strongly in his community.

After presenting the award to Royal, Stephen Collins remarked , “This is one of our biggest missions. It’s to support our local community. So Greene & Phillips feels very passionate about supporting these local athletes. We love doing High School Player of the Week, whether that’s with football or any other sport.”

The Gulf Shores Dolphins head into the playoffs as the top seed.

Congratulations to Ronnie Royal for his amazing performance throughout the season and especially at Friday night’s gam.  We look forward to seeing what he does at NC State as a member of the Wolfpack.

Martin Corte – Player of the Week

November 2, 2023/in Athlete of the Week, Latest News, Player of the Week/by J. David Greene

Amidst all the remarkable plays in week ten, Martin Corte, a senior running back from St. Michael Catholic School, was a cut above the rest.

In a thrilling game that concluded with a 55-54 win in overtime against T.R. Miller High School, Corte showcased a stunning athletic display, rushing for 187 yards and scoring a whopping six touchdowns. But in receiving the honor, the star running back was quick to highlight the team effort. “I think it was more of a team performance like my offensive line,  they were the one to open up the holes for me, them, the wides, the receivers, everyone really just blocked the tail off and opened the holes, and I cut and got to open field.

His outstanding contribution to the game wasn’t restricted to just the offensive front. Coach Simon Cortopassi of St. Michael’s was quick to emphasize, “It was a great time to probably have the game of his life, you know, six touchdowns and 180+ rushing yards, I think another 60 receiving. And he played another 50, 60 snaps on defense, too.” Beyond Corte’s athletic prowess, Coach Cortopassi highlighted his dedication, especially during the off-season, where he took to the weight room, encouraging his teammates to become “bigger, stronger and faster.”

For Corte, being recognized as the Player of the Week was more than just an accolade. “I mean, it’s awesome. I haven’t won many awards, so it’s pretty cool,” he said, visibly elated. David Greene, representing Greene & Phillips,  presented the award to Corte for his outstanding performance. “He is a fantastic young player… Congratulations to you from Greene & Phillips. You’re the player of the week,” Greene stated, emphasizing Corte’s significant achievements in the game.

This win wasn’t just a personal victory for Corte. It also marked a historic moment for St. Michael Catholic School, securing their spot in the playoffs for the first time in the program’s seven-year history.

Yelding showcased exceptional skill as he threw for 236 yards and five touchdowns, contributing significantly to the Red Raiders’ win. The presentation ceremony took place earlier this week, with Emily Cochran of Fox 10 and David Greene of Greene & Phillips Personal Injury Lawyers making the award.

Halloween Safety – Studio 10

October 17, 2023/in Latest News, Personal Injury, Safety Tips, Studio 10/by J. David Greene

As the leaves begin to turn and the air grows crisp, the fall season marks not just a change in weather but also a time of festivities. Halloween is fast approaching and homeowners expecting trick-or-treaters should be aware of a few important safety issues. David Greene of Greene & Phillips Personal Injury Lawyers recently talked with Joe Emer on Studio 10’s Legal Matters to discuss key considerations for making this Halloween a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

1. Remove Decorations and Debris from Yard

Remove from your porch and front yard anything a child could trip over such as garden hoses, toys, bikes and unnecessary lawn decorations. Also check outdoor lights and replace burned-out bulbs.  Sweep or blow leaves and debris from sidewalks and driveways. Finally, make sure to restrain all pets so that they do not inadvertently bite or jump on trick-or-treaters.

2. Clearly Mark any Cords and Other Tripping Hazards

Check your sidewall for uneven areas that could be tripping hazards. Examine your yard and porch for power cords for lights or decorations.  If you can’t remove them, make them highly visible, even in the dark. Be mindful that children won’t necessarily follow designated paths. The last thing anyone wants is for a child to be hurt.

3. Obey Pedestrian Laws

As your out trick-or-treating, make sure everyone in the group is careful to follow all pedestrian laws. Walking in the street at dusk or dark can be very dangerous when cars are around.

4. Carry a Flashlight

Carry a flashlight with fresh batteries, and a fully charged cell phone for good communication. Only approach houses that are well lit, and never enter a stranger’s home. If older children plan to go trick-or-treating alone, review a route that is acceptable to you and agree on a specific time for them to return. And then once you are home, inspect all candy and treat before you consume them. Throw away anything that is unwrapped or spoiled, and don’t eat anything that is homemade from someone you don’t know.

If Something Goes Wrong

Despite all precautions, when something goes awry, don’t hesitate to reach out to Greene & Phillips for help.

Navigating Car Wreck Claims

October 3, 2023/in Car Accidents, Latest News, Personal Injury, Studio 10/by J. David Greene

Dealing with an insurance company after a car wreck can feel like a maze. Recently Attorney David Greene joined Chelsey Sayasane on Studio 10 to provide a step-by-step process for handling a car wreck claim with the insurance company.

1. Understand the Insurance Company’s Game

While insurance companies aren’t bad, their business is making money. They do that through a model built on collecting premiums and minimizing payouts. Knowing this fact can help you understand why they might seem difficult to work with. If you feel like you’re getting the run around, you can level the playing field by hiring a personal injury lawyer. They understand the business model, the law, and can represent your best interests effectively.

2. Be Careful What You Say

Insurance adjusters are well-trained in guiding conversations in ways that benefit their company. One wrong answer could jeopardize your entire claim, especially in states like Alabama which have rules aligning with the contributory negligence doctrine. That’s why we always suggest consulting with a lawyer who deals with this type of case before talking to the insurance company.  They can guide you on what to say and how to say it to protect your interests.

3. Recognize Red Flags

If an insurance company quickly offers you a check, don’t rush to accept it! Quick settlements often don’t account for the full scope of your claims such as future medical bills or ongoing emotional trauma. Any quick settlement offer should be seen as a red flag.  Consult with a lawyer before making any decisions.

4. Take Immediate Action

Once you’ve been in a wreck, getting ahold of evidence and witness statements is crucial. At Greene & Phillips Injury Lawyers, we employee trained investigators who know exactly what kind of evidence to collect. They can lock down your story and the evidence such as security camera footage and witness statements which become more difficult to find the longer you wait.

5. Get Expert Guidance

A personal injury lawyer can help guide you through the legal maze, from ordering your medical records to advising you on whether to settle or go to trial. When shopping for law firms, choose one that has experience in handling various aspects of personal injury cases, from investigation to litigation.

Navigating the insurance maze doesn’t have to be a solo journey. With these steps, you’ll be better equipped to handle the intricacies of insurance claims. Stay safe out there, and remember, expert help is always available.

Curious if You Have a Case?

Finding out if you have a case is easy.

Hollins humbly deflects the praise towards his teammates. “It was a good performance. But I can’t do anything without the guys up front and my receivers catching the ball,” he said, highlighting the importance of teamwork in securing a win.

Hollins also expressed his gratitude for being recognized as the Player of the Week but emphasized that he is already looking ahead towards upcoming matches. “It’s always amazing to be appreciated. but I just got to put it behind me and get ready for this next week.”

Head Coach, Zach Golson, had nothing but praise for Hollins. He emphasized Hollins’ commendable leadership traits, stating, “He’s one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around.” Golson went on to describe Hollins as an “excellent young man, a great leader in our community, and an outstanding ambassador for our school.”
