J. Matthew Shelby
For attorney Matt Shelby working in the legal profession as an attorney is a calling, not a job.
“If you treat it as just another job it’s not going to work out well for you or your client,” said Shelby. He was drawn to the profession because he wanted to help people.
He spent the first years as an attorney prosecuting criminal cases.
Upon graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law School and passing the Alabama Bar Exam, Matt began working for the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney where he was assigned as Drug Prosecutor. He handled all manner of felony drug cases from simple Unlawful Possession to Unlawful Manufacturing and Drug Trafficking. He continued working there until December of 2009 when he was hired on as a lawyer for Greene & Phillips.
Born and raised in Baldwin County, Matt attended Christ the King school in Daphne before attending and graduating from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in 2001. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 2005 from Auburn University. During his time at Auburn he was a Student Assistant for the Auburn Men’s Basketball team, and is a current member of the Auburn University Letterman’s Club.
In 2005, Matt was admitted to the University Of Alabama School Of Law as a Dean’s Merit Scholar and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in May of 2008. In Law School, he was a member of the school’s Capital Defense Clinic assisting attorneys in providing defense for indigent defendants facing the death penalty.
Matt has been married to his wife Jennifer since August 2008. Matt has a 7-year-old stepson, a 2 year old daughter and a one- month-old son.
