Amari Yelding – Player of the Week

October 19, 2023/in Athlete of the Week, Latest News, Player of the Week

Senior quarterback Amari Yelding was named the Greene & Phillips Player of the Week, following a stellar performance that led the Red Raiders to a 31-21 triumph over 5A region rival UMS Wright last Friday.

Game Highlights

Yelding showcased exceptional skill as he threw for 236 yards and five touchdowns, contributing significantly to the Red Raiders’ win. The presentation ceremony took place earlier this week, with Emily Cochran of Fox 10 and David Greene of Greene & Phillips Personal Injury Lawyers making the award.

A Total Team Effort

In response to the honor, Yelding attributed the victory to a comprehensive team effort. “That’s just a total team effort, a great team win, a great week of preparation from the top down, from the coaching staff down to the players,” Yelding said. “We had a great game plan going in. We executed very well offensively, defensively, getting us the ball back.”

A Proud Father and Coach

Lawrence Yelding, Amari’s father and coach, expressed his pride not just as a parent but also from a coaching perspective. “Amari had a great game on Friday night. So I’m just super proud that, you know, he’s remained diligent, worked hard and kind of persevered. And, you know, now it’s kind of paying off for him a little bit. Extremely proud of him as a dad, extremely proud of him as a coach,” Lawrence said.

Not Just an Individual Achievement

Amari Yelding noted that the award symbolizes more than just individual brilliance. “It means a lot because to me, the award is not just for me, but a representation of how hard our whole team worked. And even though it says Player of the Week, it’s really about our whole team and how we were able to work together,” Yelding added.

College World Take Note

David Greene summed up the sentiment, saying, “What a big win against UMS Wright. Five touchdowns, 236 yards for a very fine young player. College World Lookout, he’s coming.”

Congratulations to Amari and the Red Raiders for their amazing performance Friday night. And thank you to Greene and Phillips for helping us spotlight these talented athletes each and every week,” Cochran said.

Be sure to tune in next week for the unveiling of the next Greene & Phillips Player of the Week.
