Motorcycle Safety

March 18, 2026/in Mobile, Motorcycle Accidents, Personal Injury, Studio 10, Uncategorized

As the weather warms up across the Gulf Coast, more motorcycles are hitting the road. While riding can be a great way to enjoy the sunshine, it also means drivers need to be extra aware and share the road safely. Recently, David Greene joined Studio 10 to talk about motorcycle safety and what both riders and drivers should keep in mind.

This time of year we really start seeing more motorcycles on the road. Why is that important for drivers to remember?
Motorcycles are much smaller and harder to see than passenger vehicles, so drivers have to be especially alert. One of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents is when a driver simply doesn’t see the rider before changing lanes or making a turn. As the weather gets nicer and more people start riding again, it’s important for drivers to double-check their blind spots and be mindful that motorcycles may be sharing the road.

Are there certain types of accidents involving motorcycles that you tend to see more often?
Yes. One of the most common situations is when a vehicle turns left in front of a motorcycle at an intersection. The driver may think they have enough time to turn, but motorcycles can sometimes appear farther away than they actually are. Because motorcycles don’t have the same protection as a car or truck, even a relatively low-speed crash can lead to serious injuries for the rider.

For motorcycle riders themselves, what are some things they can do to stay safer on the road?
Visibility is really important. Wearing bright or reflective gear can help drivers see you more easily, especially in low-light conditions. Riders should also assume that drivers may not see them and ride defensively. That means maintaining safe distances, being cautious at intersections, and always wearing proper protective gear.

And if someone is involved in a motorcycle accident, what should they do afterward?
Just like with any accident, the first priority should always be safety and medical care. Motorcycle injuries can sometimes be more severe, so it’s important to get checked out by a medical professional. After that, documenting the scene, getting witness information, and filing a police report are all important steps to consider after an accident.

And if someone has questions after an accident?
If someone has been injured in a motorcycle accident and isn’t sure what their options are, it can be helpful to speak with a local attorney who handles these types of cases, like the lawyers at Greene & Phillips. Call, text or come by anytime.

These recoveries and testimonials are not an indication of future results. Every case is different, and regardless of what friends, family, or other individuals may say about what a case is worth, each case must be evaluated on its own facts and circumstances as they apply to the law. The valuation of a case depends on the facts, the injuries, the jurisdiction, the venue, the witnesses, the parties, and the testimony, among other factors. Furthermore, no representation is made that the quality of the legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers.
